Well what a crazy old time it’s been the last month or so. Not looking like things are going to
be changing anytime soon either. I definitely feel as if I am in a limbo at the moment
between training for no races and having my uni degree put on hold due to the closure of a
lot of schools. I imagine a lot of people are feeling this way currently, which is okay.
One thing I’ve definitely found is that although I am not training for anything still exercising
every day is what’s keeping me sane. It’s certainly true what they say about endorphins
from exercise! I definitely know that even a small amount for me makes me feel much
better and changes my perspective on the day ahead. Which is certainly helpful in these
tough times.
I’d certainly encourage everyone to do some form of exercise everyday if you can. All be it
at home or within the proper social distancing guidelines for your state.
For now I’ve taken a bit of a step back and am working on some smaller athletic goals such
as being able to do 10 chin ups and eyeing off a few of the Strava QOMs in my local area.
I’ve also been using the extra time I have at home to try out some new things like yoga,
range of movement exercises and working my way through all the books in our house.
It’s actually in a way nice to slow down and appreciate life a bit more. I know I am in an
extremely lucky position to be in able to do so, as I know a lot of people aren’t as lucky as I
am.
If you’re struggling right now, hang in there, breathe, do a little bit of exercise (anything is
better than nothing) and reassess your goals. Make small goals to achieve every day or week
whether it be in general or athletically.
